Baby Boomers often favor more formal language, longer sentences, and traditional communication methods. They may favor face-to-face conversations or phone calls. Boomers might use terms that SEEM outdated to younger generations.  Words might include: groovy, right on, chill out, peace out, coolness, and the skinny (gossip). 

Below are common phrases from the 1960s and 70s:

Gnarly - When something is scary, challenging, or dangerous.

Chill Out - Take it easy or calm down. 

Groovy - Something that is “cool” or “fine.”

Square -  Uncool or boring.

Boob Tube - A slang word for television.

Far-Out - referring to something considered bizarre.

Lay It On Me - Asking someone to share what’s on their mind. 

Dish It Out - To give advice.”

Threads - A stylish article of clothing

The Skinny Or “spill the tea,” refers to gossip.

Drag -  boring.

Catch Some Zs -  to get some sleep.

Grody - Something extremely gross.

Fuzz - Another word for police. 

Bummer - When someone is disappointed about something.

Peace Out - A way of saying goodbye. 

A Gas - Something that is fun or funny. 

Fink - A snitch or informer. 

Wet Rag - A bore or killjoy. 

Split - Leaving somewhere quickly.

Far out/Outta sight - Another way of saying "cool." 

Mellow - Relaxed or laid-back.

In the groove - Part of the in-crowd, trendy.
