Week 7 - Despair

October 26, 2025

Prayer is the best weapon we have; it is the key to God's heart. You must speak to Jesus not only with your lips, but with your heart. In fact, on certain occasions you should only speak to Him with your heart. Pio of Pietrelcina

There are seasons in life when the only word that truly describes our hearts is desperation. We feel it for our children, for our families, for our loved ones, and even for ourselves. None of us is immune. Though our circumstances may differ, the truth remains—no one makes it through life untouched by pain.

It is often in desperation that our deepest prayers are born. Sometimes words cannot even capture what pours out from the depths of our soul. The psalmists knew this well—they laid bare their cries before God, shaping even their grief and anguish into songs. Their struggles became testimonies of God’s faithfulness.

These seasons of desperation are not hidden from God. He sees. He knows. And He has no intention of leaving us to walk such roads alone. In those moments, we need the presence of fellow believers to come alongside us—to help us keep walking in faith when the journey feels unbearable.

Scripture is honest about this reality. We meet people sitting in the ashes of depression. We see hearts shattered by betrayal. We hear the cries of parents relentlessly mourning their children. Even Jesus Himself cried out to His Father when the weight of His calling pressed too heavily to bear. Desperation is not something to conceal—it is something to carry to Christ.

And here is the promise: when we bring our desperation to Him, He meets us there. He holds us in our weakness, He walks with us in our brokenness, and He leads us through until the dawn breaks, our hearts are healed, and hope is restored.

As you read this week, watch closely how God’s people—though pressed and burdened—still lift their voices in praise. May their witness remind us that even in the darkest night, worship can rise, and God is near.

Begin with the prayer and instructions on the How to Start page. Be sure you have spent time in worship. Finally, ask Holy Spirit to help you hear from Him before you read. Take time to listen.

Read each day’s scripture with a heart to understand the desperation of the person. Read it once quietly and slowly, then read it aloud. Does the circumstance resonate with you? How does the person see God and what He is able to do? If you are in a desperate season, which scripture helps you see the faithfulness of God? Write out a prayer taking your situation to God. Don’t be afraid to show the level of desperation you really feel.
