Week 1 — Go

September 14, 2025

No one’s a firmer believer in the power of prayer than the devil; not that he practices it, but he suffers from it. Guy King

We begin this journey the way Jesus did. He simply went. Matthew, Mark, and Luke all record many times that Jesus would go to a quiet place early in the morning to pray. He would even do it to the frustration of his followers. Jesus knew that prayer was where He could hear clearly from His Father. It was where He could be restored. He would listen to the heart of the Father as He would pour out his own.

The night before Jesus died, he told his disciples that He and the Father are one. The Father is in Him just as He is in the Father. He expressed His desire that we too would be in Him and in the Father in the same way. The answer to Jesus’ prayer happens when, like Him, we go and engage with the triune God in consistent and faithful prayer – dare I say daily.

Jesus went.

He went in the morning.

He went with a heart of faith.

He went expecting to hear.

He went to become one with the Father.

This week’s assignment is to go. Find a time. Make time. Go and pray.

Begin with the prayer on the how to begin page. If all you can afford is 15 minutes, that is enough. Maybe you can read the scripture of the day, get on your way to work, and pray through it while you are enroute. This is a grace filled process. Jesus knows what your life is like and He still wants to meet with you.

Go to a spot in your house. Go to a park. Take a walk or a ride. If you are taking a walk or a ride, read the scripture for the day first so you can meditate on it and ask the Holy Spirit to teach you what He wants you to know while you are out.

This is the beginning of prayer. First, we go; and when we go, we lean in to hear the heart of the Father just as Jesus did.

There is space on the next couple of pages to take notes or to journal what you’re doing and what you are hearing. You may be practicing with different locations, different times of day, or different amounts of time. Write down what works for you so you can create a consistent rhythm of going to pray.

In this week’s readings you will read about real people who responded to the call of God to go and pray.

Read the text for the day at least twice. Maybe once out loud and once quietly. If you have time, read multiple translations. Ask Holy Spirit to speak to you about what you will read. Write out what comes to your mind for each text.
