The mission of Teen Bible Quizzing is to provide an in-depth study of Scripture, reinforced by monthly quiz meets. These meets provide a platform for students to showcase their study skills, build self-confidence, and deepen their understanding of God's love and desire for relationship.

Debra notes the sheer volume of verses memorized! She shares that teen quizzers learn 87 verses in a single year but all three leaders emphasize that quizzing is about more than just rote memorization. Debbie hopes the children gain a "true understanding of what these words mean and how they can apply these things to their lives." She highlights the focus on memory verses specifically chosen for their life-changing potential. Debra echoes this sentiment, enjoying the process of dissecting verses with the children to uncover deeper meaning.

The vibrant energy of children and teenagers learning and reciting Scripture fills the air here at Crossroads. More than just a memory exercise, the church’s Bible Quizzing program is a dynamic ministry that plants deep seeds of faith, fosters understanding, confidence, and a lifelong love for God’s Word.

For Debbie Raber, a member of Crossroads for 33 years, involvement in quizzing has come full circle. She coached when her own children participated, and later, her passion reignited when her son sought the same enriching experience for his children. He came to me and said, 'Do you still teach kids' quizzing here?' At the time, we did not...". This conversation sparked her to approach the children's pastor to see if the revival of a program was possible!

Kelda Smith has faithfully co-led with Debbie for 7 years. She participated in quizzing as a child and wanted her children to experience it as well! Just like Debbie, she spoke with the children’s pastor about starting up the program at Crossroads. Both were asked if they were willing to partner with each other in this, and they said yes!

Thus, the start of Children’s Quizzing began!

They explain that the mission of children's quizzing is to give kids a solid understanding of the story of God through His chosen people. They also hope kids learn of His love and faithfulness.

Transitioning from children's quizzing, teenagers find a challenging and rewarding experience in the Teen Bible Quizzing program, led by Debra Donald. Debra's journey began in 2008 when her older sons were invited to join. From that moment on, they have participated in Teen Bible Quizzing, emphasizing the impact it has had on her entire family.

Debbie’s and Kelda’s continued involvement stems from the genuine interest of the children and the excitement they display during the quiz meets. For Debra, "It's exciting to see how students who come in uncertain blossom and open up through study and practice. They develop self-confidence to speak, to say the scriptures out loud and boldly”.

Both the children's and teen quizzing teams meet on Sunday mornings during the first service throughout the school year. Children's quizzing typically runs from August to April, with the possibility of extending to May for those who qualify for a trip to San Diego. The program follows a six-year cycle, delving into Genesis through Acts, with each year focusing on a specific book of the Bible. Teen quizzing follows a similar schedule.

New members can expect a supportive and engaging environment. Children receive a binder filled with materials to aid their study, and each lesson is explored through interactive methods like songs and games. Teen quizzers experience a strong sense of teamwork, learning to support and challenge each other while developing a close-knit community.

Through the dedicated leadership of individuals like Debbie, Kelda, and Debra, the Bible Quizzing ministry here at Crossroads is not just an extracurricular activity; it's a vital tool for nurturing young hearts and minds with the timeless truths of scripture, equipping them for a life grounded in faith.
