Recently, I had the privilege of interviewing Jan; she shared more of her story and the inspiration behind her book:

I had never considered writing a book until Pastor Mark Fuller approached me at a seminar called “Courageous Grand-Parenting” and said, “Jan, it’s time... you need to write your story!”

Having just finished a seminar about the importance of building a legacy that lives on, I knew he was right. My desire has always been for my family to know how the Hand of God works in miraculous ways.

I decided that if writing a book would help my grandchildren know our family story and heritage of faith firsthand, and if they would trust that I’m writing the truth, then yes, I knew it was time to write.

In preparation for writing Harvest of Joy, I spent hours reading my notes and reliving those difficult days.

Remembering the mountain of debt, legal battles, and insurance nightmares God had brought me through was a humbling reminder. Even during a period when I was homeless, God provided people who invited me into their homes for days or even weeks at a time. Also, God inspired a team of men who came alongside me and worked tirelessly until they resolved my financial and legal issues.

Some thought I would not make it, that I would break down under the pressure, but I knew God delivered me for a purpose. He held me gently in His hands, never let go, and I survived to proclaim His goodness.

Writing my story gave me a new boldness. I now travel with Harvest of Joy in my suitcase, and it never fails that God shows me the person who needs to read my story. A few years ago, I met a couple on a Cruise Ship. Every day after I gave them the book, they looked for me to ask questions about my faith. Before the cruise ended, I had the honor of leading a 92-year old man to Christ.

At times, I find it hard to believe so many people have read my little book, and that it has even been translated into Norwegian and sold in bookstores in Norway. When I hear from those who have read my story and share how it helped them believe “God can do the same for them”, my heart is overjoyed.

My prayer is that whoever’s hands Harvest of Joy may land on will catch a glimpse of God’s unchanging love and faithfulness through my story.
