Week 2 – Worship
September 21, 2025
Each time, before you intercede, be quiet first, and worship God in His glory. Think of what He can do, and how He delights to hear the prayers of His redeemed people. Think of your place and privilege in Christ and expect great things! Andrew Murray
Worship is the natural response for hearts that recognize the majesty of the One before whom we have come. When we pray, we are speaking with the Maker of heaven and earth, the One who set the stars in place and spins the earth at its perfect speed on its perfect axis. He is the God who formed the mountains and the seas, who tends every bird and creature, and who knit each of us together in our mother’s womb. To realize this is to be undone—to fall to our knees in awe and adoration. Prayer must begin here: in worship of the Holy God who graciously invites us into His presence at any time, any place, and as often as we are willing.
Many of the Psalms are a great model for this in prayer. Again and again, the psalmists lift their eyes to God’s greatness before laying their requests at His feet. As we begin our own prayers this way, our hearts become aligned with the heart of the Father. We begin to get ourselves out of the way. Only then are we ready to pray for His kingdom to come—in every situation, over every person, even into the deep and dark corners of broken and shattered lives.
When we worship, our imaginations for who God is and what He can do expands. We begin to glimpse what is possible when He moves. Even then, our imagination is still too small, for His ways are higher than ours. But without worship, our prayers shrink—we slip into chasing our own desires, relying on our own strength, and trying to shape outcomes by our own hands. Worship centers us. It teaches us who He is, and in new ways of understanding our God we learn what it means to truly pray for His upside-down kingdom to come.
You may think that worship is only done with singing and music. This week’s readings will provide scripture that will help you worship even without music. You may be surprised to find that worship can become the whole prayer experience. Worship helps us put things at the feet of Jesus that otherwise weigh on us. This is what can happen when we open our hearts to worship the Lord God Almighty.
So let us begin our prayers in worship—adoring the God who is worthy of it all.
Continue to begin your prayer time with the prayer and instructions on the How to Start page. As you read these passages, make them your prayer. Personalize the testimonies of God’s goodness with those in your own life. Consider where He showed up the day or the week before. Read the scriptures in different translations both aloud and silent. If you are doing this reading with other people, read to one another, maybe even text part of the day’s scripture to each other. You might be amazed at the power that can be experienced in a shared reading and prayer experience.
Ask God what He is showing you about His character in the people and situations for which you have concern. Write down what you are hearing and share with at least one other person this week.
